October 26th is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

It’s October, meaning it’s National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, dedicated to spreading awareness about drug abuse and how communities can come together to comeback the crisis.

There are various events held locally in the name of this awareness campaign, but October 26th 2019 specifically will be National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is propelling this effort, stating:

“The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.”

How to Be Involved for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

During this event, it will take place on October 26th, 2019 from 10 AM to 2 PM.

The goal is to find a collection site near you and turn in your prescription drugs. Most sites are police stations or a type of law enforcement agency.

The quickest and easiest way is the “National Take Back Initiative Collection Site Search” found on the official website. From there you can put in your zip code, or county, city, or state and view the closest sites near you to dispose of your prescriptions safely. More than likely, it will be police stations within a 10 to 25-mile radius.

For instance, if you chose “Galloway, NJ” as your location, you would see three sites:

  • Northfield Police Department
  • Linwood Police Department
  • Longport Police Department

This is a great way to help yourself or a loved one who may be abusing or misusing prescriptions while spreading awareness.

Conclusion

Get involved! National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a great initiative that involves much of the community, especially law enforcement.
